”I tell you, Peter," Jesus said,

"the cock will not crow tonight until you have said three times

that you do not know me."

**************

When one of the servant-girls saw him sitting there a the fire,

she looked straight at him and said,

"This man too was with Jesus!"

         But Peter denied it,

"Woman, I don't even know him!"

After a little while a man noticed Peter and said,

"You are one of them, too!"

But Peter answered, "Man, I am not!"

And about an hour later another man

insisted strongly, "There isn't any doubt

that this man was with Jesus, because he also is a Galilean!"

But Peter answered, "Man, I don't know what you are talking about!"

At once, while he was still speaking, a cock crowed.

The Lord turned round and looked straight at Peter,

and Peter remembered that the Lord has said to him,

"Before the cock crows tonight, you will say three times

that you do not know me."

Peter went out and wept bitterly.

13   "Go in through the narrow gate,

because the gate to hell is wide

and the road that leads to it is easy,

14   But the gate to life is narrow

and the way that leads to it is hard,

and there are few people who find it.

44  Every tree is known by the fruit it bears;

you do not pick figs from thorn bushes

or gather grapes from bramble bushes.

45  A good person brings good out of the treasure of good things

Jesus the Real Vine   John 15:1-4

1  "I am the real vine, and my Father is the gardner.

2  He breaks off every branch in me that does not bear fruit,

and he prunes every branch that does bear fruit,

so that it will be clean and bear more fruit.

3  You have been made clean already by the teaching I have given you.

4  Remain united to me, and I will remain united to you.

A branch cannot bear fruit by itself; it can do so only if it remains in the vine.

In the same way you cannot bear fruit unless you remain in me.

5  "I am the vine, and you are the branches.

    Whoever remains in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit;

for you can do nothing without me.

Jesus Eats the Passover Meal with His Disciples    Matthew 26:17-23

17  On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread

the disciples came to Jesus and asked him,

"Where do you want us to get he Passvoer meal ready for you?"

18  "Go to a certain man in the city," he said to them, "and tell him:

'The Teacher says, My hour has come; my disciples and I will celebrate

the Passover at your house.' "

19  The disciples did as Jesus had told them and prepared the Passover meal.

20  When it was evening, Jesus and the twelve disciples sat down to eat.

21  During the meal Jesus said, "I tell you, one of you will betray me."

22  The disciples were very upset and began to ask him, one after the other,

"Surely, Lord, you don't mean me?"

23  Jesus answered, "One who dips his bread in the dish with me will betray me.

24  The Son of Man will die as the Scriptures say he will, but how terrible for

that man who betrays the Son of Man!

It would have been better for that man if he had never been born!"

25  Judas, the traitor, spoke up.  "Surely, Teacher, you don't mean me?"

he asked.  Jesus answered, "So you say."

The Temptation of Jesus     Matthew 4:1-4

1  Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the Devil.

2  After spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry.

3  Then the Devil came to him and said, "If you are God's Son, order these stones

    turn into bread."

4  But Jesus answered, "The scripture says, "Man cannot live on bread alone,

but needs every word that God speaks."

比較表現 the same way as ...

よく用いられる比較表現  " the same way as ... "     from Matthew 7:2

1  "Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you,

2  for God will judge you in the same way as you judge others,

and he will reply to you the same rules you apply to others.

3  Why, then, do you look at the speck in your brother's eye,

and pay no attention to the log in your own eye?

4  How dare you say to your brother, "Please, let me take that speck

out of your eye,"  when you have a log in your own eye?

5  You hypocrite!  First take the log out of your own eye,

and then you will be able to see clearly to take the speck

   out of your brother's eye.
