REBEL WITH A CAUSE 大義名分のある反抗 (part 3)

Still, there have been blunders.  In 2001, Uniqlo opened 21 stores in the U.K. only to shut 16 of them within two years after miserable results.  In 2005, Uniqlo opened its first three U.S. stores in New Jersey, but all were closed by the following year.  “We were nobody,” Yanai says.  “The U.S. was my biggest failure.”

Yet he kept striving and evolving.  Whereas his first billions were owned to plain, functional, durable clothing at minimal cost, today Uniqlo has moved up the value chain.  It has design collaborations with the MOMA, Louvre, and Tate Modern as well as brand ambassadors including tennis superstar Roger Federer, who in 2018 signed a $30 million-per-year deal that tripled that of his previous sponsor, Nike.

For Yanai, the underlying philosophy is to fail rather than fade.  He bears the scars from Ube, which was a coal-mining boomtown until the energy transition caused the pits to close and jobs to move elsewhere.  As they did, all the shops that served them also shuttered.  It was a grim lesson that every business plan has a shelf life and those that don’t adapt, perish.

Yanai’s passion for pushing boundaries is embodied by Uniqlo’s Tokyo headquarters, which sprawls over the size of a city block with 14-ft.-high ceilings, cafes, and hangout spaces.  The R&D lab boasts test chambers where new materials are plunged into 40 chills or torrential downpours as the wearer’s comfort is monitored via thermal-imaging cameras.  In the basement are seven dedicated photo and video studios, where models parade next season’s lines, and the color-corrected images are uploaded immediately to the firm’s website by technicians perched 10 ft. away.  There’s a library overflowing with design books, and a Great Hall modeled on a sumo stadium whose polished timber bleachers can seat 1,000 for large presentations.

Everything is geared toward collaboration and control.  Instead of simply entrusting overseas suppliers to replicate sample garments, Uniqlo maintains at great expense an Innovation Factory in Tokyo where it first finesses the entire manufacturing process.  Ranks of 3D sewing machines—that can stich complex garments from just one thread without seams, making them up to 40% more efficient—clatter away as production managers tinker with hundreds of variable to optimize quality and speed, down to the length and temperature of the post-manufacturing wash.  Then the entire production manifest is sent to partner factories in Bangladesh or Vietnam that are equipped with identical machines and materials, ensuring precise replication even when production is ramped up by a factor of thousands.  “It’s critical that quality goes together with fashion and functionality,” says Yanai.

YANAI CAN’T HELP but swim against the tide.  He’s a vibrant dynamo in a corporate culture famed for gray conformity and happily flaunts his success despite local taboos against ostentatious wealth—he owns two golf courses on Maui alone.  Yanai has zero hesitations skewering the political elite when rival CEOs are more concerned by their stock price.  “The Japanese government and bureaucrats need to have their mindset challenged,” he says.  “Because they know nothing.”  But a man whose 2003 autobiography is titled One Win and Nine Losses cannot to be accused to arrogance.  His bootstraps ascension story has been out of struggles over come, mistakes owned, self-doubt always lingering.

REBEL WITH A CAUSE

Tadashi Yanai grew Uniqlo into a global force.

Now he’s out to fix his country.

THE PREVIOUS EVENING’S STORM CLOUDS HAVE CLEARED to bathe Tokyo in crisp sunshine.  Tadashi Yanai, Japan’s richest man and founder of $73 billion apparel empire Uniqlo, is perusing the art books that line his wood-paneled office, which, like most of his firm’s cavernous headquarters, commands sweeping vistas of the Sumida River.  Finally, he retrieves one he believes will be of particular interest: a tome of historical photographs curated by TIME that features John F. Kennedy on the cover in deep conversation with his brother Bobby during the Cuban missile crisis.

“I particularly like his saying ‘Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country,’” says Yanai, 74, carefully replacing the book in its stand.  “That’s what I want to talk about today.”

On the face of it, Yanai has many reasons to feel upbeat.  Fast Retailing—the holding company that operates Uniqlo and eight other brands he established out of his father’s tailoring business— saw operating profits of $2.54 billion for the year to Aug. 31, up 28.2% year over year.  The firm’s share price, meanwhile, has soared 31% so far this year, propelling Yanai’s personal wealth to $36 billion.  He also has bold plans to finally conquer the U.S. by nearly tripling Uniqlo’s existing 72 North American outlets by 2027.

The rosy outlook radiates across Japan, where a perennially sluggish economy is now predicted to grow faster than those of the U.S. and Europe, its bourse riding a three-decade high.  Moreover, in response to the Ukraine war, Japan has pushed through a transformative increase in defense spending and in May welcomed world leaders for a G-7 summit in Hiroshima, galvanizing a resurgent leadership role for the world’s No. 3 economy.  “The alliance between Japan and the United States is unprecedentedly strong and deep,” Prime Minister Fumio Kishida told TIME in late April.

Yet Yanai is not buying his nation’s new swagger.  Instead, it’s time for some home truths, he says, insisting he wants to deliver a “shocking” statement to his compatriots.  “Wake up!” he says squarely.  “Japan is not advanced nation at all, because we have been in a dormant state for 30 years.”

Yanai’s sobering pitch is that Japan’s economy is teetering on a precipice because of an unhealthy obsession with manufacturing, workers conditioned to corporate bloat, and a budget financed by soaring debt rather than tax receipts.  In December, Japan’s Cabinet approved a record $858 billion general-account budget for 2023, despite expecting only $493 billion in tax revenue, with plans to issue $250 billion in new government bonds over the same period.

Japan’s public debt is already 264% of GDP—the highest in the world, and nominal wages (not adjusted for inflation) rose by just 4% from 1990 to 2019, compared with 145% in the U.S. Productivity languishes at the bottom of G-7 nations.  “In Beijing and Shanghai, people are getting two and three times the compensation of equivalent positions in Japan,” says Yanai.  “We need to normalize Japan’s economy.”

Yanai is putting his money where his mouth is and in March hiked the wages of Fast Retailing’s 8,400 or so employees in Japan by up to 40%.  “That still is low; it should be much higher,” he confesses.  He’s calling on Japan’s government to take similarly proactive measures such as raising interest rates, cutting handouts, and making sweeping regulatory changes to prevent the nation of 125 million from sleepwalking into disaster.

Fiscal lethargy is never good look for a key U.S. ally, but especially nor for one in the direct shadow of China, which Washington has come to regard not only as an economic competitor but also as a global rival.  Still, Yanai’s rallying cry chafes with Japanese executives who owe their careers to steadily climbing the corporate ladder.  Whether they will buy into his subversive fervor is a huge question.

Yanai isn’t copy about the stakes: “Unless we tap into the rest of the world, and become more active, there will be no future for the Japanese people.”

=WORLD(final)=

TO PARAPHRASE AL JABER, let’s get real for a minute.  Is an oil and gas CEO from a petrostate the ideal candidate to lead a transition away from fossil fuels?  The concerns are legitimate to say the least.  But to see Al Jaber as an agent for resurgent fossil-fuel companies misses the context.  Since COVID-19, markets have revalued fossil fuels.  The war in Ukraine led some climate champions to call for more oil drilling and gas infrastructure to combat Russia.  President Biden’s signature climate legislation, the Inflation Reduction Act, provides a lifeline to oil companies via subsidies for a range of industry-friendly technologies like hydrogen, geothermal, and carbon dioxide removal.  Of the latter, Occidental Petroleum CEO Vicki Hollub told an industry conference earlier this year, “This gives our industry a license to continue to operate for the 60,70, 80 years that I think it’s going to be very much needed.”

The reality of thriving oil industry at this critical juncture has thrust the climate movement into a search for new strategies to decarbonize.  The activist group 350.org, which rose to prominence opposing oil pipelines, has shifted strategies “to unite around the banner of advancing solutions, not just fighting,” says executive director May Boeve.  That means advocating for renewable energy, in hopes that will push fossil fuels out of the mix.  A group of more than 130 corporations including the likes of Ikea and eBay signed on to a letter lobbying policymakers “to phase out the use and production of fossil fuels,” an initiative that would have been unthinkable eve a few years ago.  “When you talk to the industry, they say, well, the demand is still there,” says Maria Mendiluce, the head of the We Mean Business Coalition, which organized the letter.  “We’re mobilizing to show that actually demand is in decline.”

COP28 negotiators so far seem to agree on one part of this question: they’ve found common ground with a commitment to triple renewable-energy capacity.  However the talks over an agreement for countries to phase down fossil fuels have not found a similar consensus.

AI Jaber recognizes the gap. His strategy to overcome it has characteristically focused on changing the economic math to make clean energy a better investment.  He has tried to galvanize everyone from the utility industry to private finance, pushing to get money flowing.  And he has given renewable-energy companies a center-stage role and elevated their concerns, like permitting reform and redesigning power markets.

In a bit of symbolism, when he visited New York City for the U.N. General Assembly in September, he left the confines of midtown Manhattan, where ministers and government officials hole up for days, to ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange.  “What’s good for the merchants is good for Dubai,” said Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, one of the UAE’s founding fathers.  AI Jaber, it seems, is bringing the same approach to climate.  On the road over the past years, he has met business leaders like Mike Bloomberg in addition to political leaders like German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and religious leaders like Pope Francis.

For all his diplomacy, he does resent the personal criticism.  “You asked me, is it fair?  It is absolutely not fair,” he tells me, pausing to wave off aides telling him that we had run out of time.  “My whole track record and my experience have been centered around sustainability, economic diversification project management, and delivery.”

A KEY QUESTION going into COP28 is whether other market players will come along.  Two days after my interview with AI Jaber, I sat down with Kerry in the Palace’s cavernous lunch hall as climate and energy ministers from around the world milled about the room.  Just as Kerry launched into his take on how inflation has affected climate action, we heard someone shouting, “John! John!”

It was Abdulaziz bin Salman al Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister and half-brother of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.  Kerry obliquely asked for confirmation that the kingdom was on board for some undisclosed part of the talks: “My good friend,” Kerry said, “you guaranteed us correct?”  Abdulaziz replied, to laughter among those around us, “It depends…”

Behind the scenes, it has been clear the Saudis are key to Al Jaber’s success of failure in reconciling the diverging needs of the climate crisis and the fossil-fuel industry.  The country has the world’s second-largest oil reserves and has historically worked to protect its fossil-fuel economy in climate negotiations.  “The extent to which there is any ambition depends on whether Saudi Aramco thinks it’s good thing,” says one official with knowledge of the discussions among oil and gas companies, referring to the Saudi national oil company.

Big oil producers are not the only obstacle to broad agreement at COP28.  The U.S. and Europe have historically resisted measures that might hold them liable for the costs of their emissions.  India and China have historically resisted demands to phase out coal.  In theory, the UAE is well positioned to bridge some of these gaps, thanks to good relations with nearly all players.  “The time has come for us to capitalize on our expertise gained over the years, the relationships we’ve created,” says Al Jaber.

The officials closest to talks largely view Al Jaber as a good-faith actor.  “I believe that he’s fully committed,” says Maros Sefcovic, the official overseeing climate policy in the European Union.  “They have an unimaginable challenge ahead of them,” says Tina Stege, climate envoy for the Marshall Islands, “but our expectations are high.”

That doesn’t mean that COP28 will be a success.  Al Jaber’s business-minded approach has led to a series of con-founding decisions.  He cycled through PR firms.  He has relied on McKinsey for guidance, despite the firm’s lack of expertise in navigating delicate climate talks.  And he spent months on a listening tour, which some say set back negotiations.

Upon returning home from Abu Dhabi, I reflected on the question being asked widely in the climate community: “Is he legit?” Despite all the awkwardness of his position, I find him to be consistent.  Realism to Al Jaber means accepting that a move away from fossil fuels will happen only when the economics change.  In the meantime, there’s profit for him to make in oil.  For all our sake, let’s hope that changes soon.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ABU DHABI'S CHIEF OIL EXEC IS TASKED WITH PHASING DOWN FOSSIL FUELS?

LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW of the Bell 412 helicopter ferrying me out of Abu Dhabi, I get a glimpse of the classic vision of the Arabian Desert: a sea of wavy sand dunes stretching as far as the eye can see.  Visible through the other window is a science-fiction-like array of solar panels, covering an area larger than Manhattan. Tracing the border of the solar park, we descend to get a close look at the nearly 900-ft. tower loaded with molten salt that absorbs and stores the energy from the 70,000 mirrors that surround it.

AI Jaber’s team arranged the ride to Mohammed bin Rashid AI Maktoum Solar Park, among the world’s largest, to showcase the UAE’s climate work.  As impressive as the solar farm is, I’m just as intrigued by the ride to the site.  We lift off from a helipad in Abu Dhabi, getting a stunning, if brief, view of the skyscrapers that have emerged from the headset that 60 years ago was an impoverished community suffering from the decline of the pear-diving trade.  From there, we fly over the Persian Gulf, where I can spot some of the UAE’s offshore oil rigs in the distance, contributing to the nearly 3 million barrels of oil the country produces every day.

AI Jaber is at the center of this energy ecosystem.  At age 50, the bespectacled executive runs ADNOC and serves as the chairman of Masdar, the state-owned company he co-founded that now operates renewable-energy projects in over 40 countries.  When we sit down, he addresses me warmly, and jumps right into his resume.  He was appointed to run ADNOC in 2016, he says, months after the world had inked the Paris Agreement, in part to “future-proof” the business amid the global transition away from fossil fuels.  “They wanted a smart, progressive disruption,” he says.

Progressive is a relative term.  AI Jaber hasn’t committed ADNOC to cutting its oil production, nor has he charted a path for it to become a renewables company.  Instead, the company is investing more than $150 billion on growth projects, including expanding its crude-oil production capacity to 5 million barrels per day by 2030.  A fraction of that money, $15 billion, is dedicated to reducing the emissions that oil extraction will generate.  That said, it has led so some improvement: Offshore oil rigs now run on electricity, and digital tools allow the company to map areas where energy is wasted.  And the company has begun building big-budget carbon-capture projects.

As COP28 chief, he has called on other oil companies to come to Dubai with similar commitments to crack down on leaks of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, and to decarbonize their own operations.  “If it wasn’t for what I’ve been able to do, and demonstrate to everybody in this industry, I wouldn’t be in a position to convince them,” he says.  The conversations haven’t been easy, with some state-owned oil companies in particular resisting aggressive proposals.

AI Jaber describes his approach as “realism.”  Oil is in high demand, and even in the most aggressive decarbonization scenarios, we will still need some supply by the middle of the century.  He argues it’s best that whatever oil we use has the lowest carbon content available.  That’s especially important in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, where oil is so cheap that it will likely remain in the global energy mix longer than oil from anywhere else.

Decarbonizing oil and gas are certainly insufficient, and some argue that it represents a fig leaf for the industry.  The sector’s operations represent 15% of global energy-related emissions, but the real problem is the product they’re selling.  In September, a U.N. assessment stated that “phasing out all unabated fossil fuels” would be “indispensable” to keeping the Paris Agreement goals within reach.

So it’s unsurprising that the criticism of AI Jaber, as a leader of a fossil-fuel company, has been unrelenting.  More than 100 members of the European Parliament and the U.S. Congress declared in May that AI Jaber had “severely jeopardized” the COP process and called on him to resign.  This summer, Gore said in a TED talk that fossil-fuel interests “have brazenly seized control of the COP process.”  Of AI Jaber, Gore said, “He’s a nice guy.  He’s a smart guy.  But a conflict of interest is a conflict of interest.”

TAYLOR SWIFT

Here, Swift has told me a story about redemption, about rising and falling only to rise again—a hero’s journey.  I do not say to her, in our conversation, that it did not always look that way from the outside—that, for example, when Reputation’s lead single “Look What You Made Me Do” reached No. 1 on the charts, or when the album sold 1.3 million albums in the first week, second only to 1989, she did not look like someone whose career had died.  She looked like a superstar who was mining her personal experience as successfully as ever.  I am tempted to say this.

But then I think, who am I to challenge it, if that’s how she felt?

The point is: she felt canceled.  She felt as if her career had been taken from her.  Something in her had been lost, and she was grieving it.  Maybe this is the real Taylor Swift effect: That she gives people, many of them women, particularly girls, who have been conditioned to accept dismissal, gaslighting, and mistreatment from a society that treats their emotions as inconsequential, permission to believe that their interior lives matter.  That for your heat to break, whether it’s from being kicked off a tour or by the memory of a scarf still sitting in a drawer somewhere or because somebody else controls your life’s work, is a valid wound, and no, you’re not crazy for being upset about it, or for wanting your story to be told.

After all, not to be corny, haven’t we all become selective autobiographers in the digital age as we curate our lives for our own audiences of any size—cutting away from the raw fabric of our lived experience to reveal the shape of the story we most want to tell, whether it’s on our own feeds or the world’s stage?  I can’t blame her for being better at it than everyone else.  It’s also not like she hasn’t admitted it.  She sang it herself, in her song “Mastermind,” off last year’s Midnights, in a bridge so feathery you could almost miss that it marks some of the rawest, most naked songwriting of her career: “No one wanted to play with me as a little kid/ So I’ve been scheming like a criminal ever since/ To make them love me and make it seem effortless/ This is the first time I’ve felt the need to confess/ And I swear I’m only cryptic and Machiavellian because I care.”

She tells me she wrote that song after watching the Paul Thomas Anderson film Phantom Thread, which—spoiler—culminates in the reveal of a vast, layered manipulation.  “Remember that last scene?” She says.  “I thought, wouldn’t it be fun to have a lyric about being calculated?”  She pauses. “It’s something that’s been thrown at me like a dagger, but now I take it as a compliment.”

It is a compliment.  After I leave Swift’s house, I can’t stop thinking about how perfectly she crafted this story for me—then one about redemption, how she lost it all and got it back.  Storytelling is what she’s always done; that’s why, Chesney tells me, he gave her that gift all those years ago.  “She was a writer who had something to say,” he says. “That isn’t something you can fake by writing cliches.  You can only live it, then write it as real as possible.”

She must have known that all the references she made had hidden meanings, that I’d see all the tossed-off details for the Easter eggs they were.  The way she told me that story about Chesney, she knew there was a lesson, about the power of generosity, and how a crushing defeat can give way to a great and surprising gift.  The way she said, “Are you not entertained?”—surely, we both knew it was a quote from Gladiator, a movie in which a hero falls from grace, is forced to perform blood sport for the pleasure of spectators, and emerges victorious, having survived humiliation and debasement to soar higher than ever.  And the way before I left, she showed me the note from Paul McCartney hanging in her bathroom, which has a Beatles lyric written on it—and not just any Beatles lyric, but this one: “Take these broken wings and learn to fly.”

PERSON OF THE YEAR TAYLOR SWIFT

TAYLOR SWIFT IS TELLING ME A STORY, and when Taylor Swift tells you a story, you listen, because you know it's going to be good--not only because she's had an extraordinary life, but because she's an extraordinary life, but because she's an extraordinary storyteller.  This one is about a time she got her heart broken, although not in the way you might expect.

She was 17, she says, and she had booked the biggest opportunity of her life so far--a highly coveted slot opening for country superstar Kenny Chesney on tour.  "This was going to change my career," she remembers.  "I was so excited."  But a couple weeks later, Swift arrived home to find her mother Andrea sitting on the front steps of their house.  "She was weeping," Swift says.  "Her head was in her hands as if there had been a family emergency."  Through sobs, Andrea told her daughter that Chesney's tour had been sponsored by a beer company.  Taylor was too young to join.  "I was devased," Swift says.

But some months later, at Swift's 18th birthday party, she saw Chesney's promoter.  He handed her a card from Chesney that read,, as Swift recalls, "I'm sorry that you couldn't come on the tour, so I wanted to make it up to you."  With the note was a check.  "It was for more money than I'd ever seen in my life," Swift says.  "I was able to pay my band bonuses.  I was able to pay for my tour buses.  I was able to fuel my dreams."

Listening to Swift share this, on a clear fall afternoon in her New York City apartment, I'm struck by how satisfying the story is.  There are high stakes at the outset; there are details, vivid and sensory; there's a twist that flips the action on its head; and there's a happy ending for its hero.  It takes her only about 30 seconds contain an entire narrative world.

I'm not surprised.  Swift has a preternatural skill for finding the story.  Her anecdote about Chesney symbolizes a larger narrative in Swift's life, one about redemption--where our protagonist discovers new happiness not despite challenges, but because of them.  Swift, as we'll discuss, took a few hits to get here.  "I've been raised up and down the flagpole of public opinion to many times in the last 20 years," she says as we tuck into a cozy den off the kitchen to talk, and she kicks off her shoes and curls up onto the sofa.  "I've been given a tiara, then had it taken away."  She is seemingly unguarded in conversation, reflective about both where she's been and where she finds herself now.   After all, while she's long been one of the biggest entertainers in the world, this year is different.  "It feels like the breakthrough moment of my career, happening at 33," she says.  "And for the first time in my life, I was mentally tough enough to take what comes with that."  This is her story--even if she's now so high that it's hard to believe she was ever low.

Swift's accomplishments as an artist--culturally, critically, and commercially--are so legion that to recount them seems almost beside the point.  As a pop star, she sits in rarefied company, alongside Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and Madonna; as a songwriter, she has been compared to Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, and Joni Mitchell.  As a businesswoman, she has built an empire worth, by some estimates, over $1 billion.  And as a celebrity--who by dint of being a woman is scrutinized for everything from whom she dates to what she wears--she has long commanded constant attention and knows how to use it.  ("I don't give Taylor advice about being famous," Stevie Nicks tells me.  "She doesn't need it.")   But this year, something shifted.  To discuss her movements felt like discussing politics or the weather--a language spoken so widely it needed no context.  She became the main character of the world.

The D.C.

AS THE NATION GRAPPLED WITH THE first wave of COVID-19 lockdowns in March 2020, a lot of public officials were desperate for information. Everyone, it seemed, had answers but not necessarily facts. Contradictions were as common as anxiety.

So, in a remarkably unsexy manner, Bloomberg Philanthropies swung into action with the network it had quietly been building with city leaders for more than a decade. By the end of that March, the data-based arm of billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s charity operation was organizing weekly calls with mayors, public-health chiefs, and politicians to help thousands of officials’ trade information and ideas—and even blow off some steam.

In a moment that lacked an obvious playbook, Bloomberg Philanthropies provided a lifeline to local leaders across the country. Yet that barely scratches the surface of how this quiet giant has shaped public policy throughout the country. In the 10 years since he ended his tenure as New York City mayor, Bloomberg has become best known for his efforts promoting anti-gun-violence and climate legislation. But the focus on those endeavors ignores the area where the mogul is arguably even more influential: the ninth richest man in America has emerged as the nation’s mayoral tutor. Counting the newest class of mentees, including the new mayor of Los Angeles, some 275 mayors and more than 400 top aides have gone through the program at the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative in the past six years. Their Bloombergian government-by-data approach shows no sign of retreat.

Although Bloomberg Philanthropies funds a range of programs—to the tune of $1.7 billion last year alone—the government efforts are probably seen every day in your cities. For instance, bike lanes have been a long priority for Bloomberg himself, and thus for his charities and seminars.

It’s true that many New Yorkers bemoan the Bloomberg era, and efforts to unspool it seem as common as mandated calorie counts on NYC menus. But there’s also no denying this network is quietly setting the agenda in city hall—if you know where to look.

Health Matters. 健康について

There’s no shortage of recommendation about how to become happier.  But how effective are they?

A new study reports that the most popular strategies endorsed in the media, and therefore recommended by experts, aren’t supported by as much science as people may think.  The analysis of thousands of happiness studies found that most of them were not conducted using the most scientifically rigorous methods to evaluate the five most popular happiness strategies—expressing gratitude, practicing mindfulness, becoming more socially engaged, spending time in nature, and exercising.

The biggest issue, say the scientists from the University of British Columbia who performed the review, involved adjustments researchers made from how they originally planned to analyze the data and how they actually crunched the numbers after the data were collected.  “It’s like throwing a dart on the wall and drawing the bull’s-eye afterward,” says Dunigan Follk, the study’s co-author.  While such flexibility in interpreting data is not uncommon, widespread adjustments could alter results of studies and make them less reliable.  In the psychology field, researchers are addressing the problem with online repositories where scientists preregister their trials, which holds them accountable for sticking to their originally intended methods for analyzing data.

Only a few dozen of the happiness studies were preregistered, and those studies showed that some of the strategies did indeed improve mood, but only for short periods of time.  While it’s likely the methods can help, having stronger, more rigorous evidence to support them could be a confidence booster.

3)Adobe
